With a vicious snow storm Tuesday night, I didn't think hunting would be as good as it was to start out the 2nd season of Wisconsin's six season spring turkey hunt. As I climbed into my blind Wednesday a.m. I anticipated a quiet morning with a lot of waiting aside from my confidence of being close to the roost. What I got was a loud forrest of birds gobbling in every direction. I was indeed close to the roost as four gobblers, nine jakes and a dozen hens flew down 100 yards in front of me. That is where they would stay all morning strutting and gobbling and it wasn't until 7:45am when two other gobblers came into my calling that one of the four original gobblers would break from the crowd to come challenge the visitors. It was then when I would let a 73 pace shot of 3.5" Hevi Shot rip from my camo 870. The bird hit the ground and ended up as a 2 year old at 20.4#s with a 9.25" beard and 3/4" spurs. A nice bird in a beauitful snowy setting was all I could ask for! What a nice day and ready for the next tag to be filled! Attachments:
